Dragon - Wu Xia - 武俠

Dragon (Wu Xia/武俠/Swordsmen) is an 2011 film out of Hong Kong. The movie stars Donnie Yen and Takeshi Kanoshiro. The supporting cast include Tang Wei, Jimmy Wang Yu, Kara Hui, Li Xiaoran, Jiang Wu, Ethan Ruan. The movie was released as "Dragon" a couple of years after its Asian release. This movie is an suspense thriller action movie.

Liu is a quiet family man that accidently kills two robbers that come to his farming town. One of the robbers is a highly sought after by the government which draws the attention of investigator, Xu. As Xu investigates, he has to piece together the robbers, Liu, the villages, and many other things. Eventually finding that Liu is a highly skilled bandit, things start to get interesting.

This was one of the better movies of 2011. Donnie goes minimalistic for this role and shows his acting chops. TK does his thing well and takes on a accent that is quite good. The investigation is intriguing and the results come half way through the movie. The second half includes most of the action, but it's not without consequences for the main leads. In the Donnie cannon, this may not be the most action packed, but it is one of my favorites due to the story and his acting. Donnie is a star and he shows it here.

My Young Auntie - 長輩

My Young Auntie (長輩) is an 1981 film. The movie stars Lau Kar-leung and Kara Hui. The supporting cast include Hsiao Ho and Gordon Liu. I borrowed this DVD from my local library the other week. My library.

The Yu family has a lots a land at stack. When the current patriarch commands a servant to wed him and transfer the land to an heir, the younger brother is not happy. The servant is sent to the city to get the land to the rightful heir. When the brother uses evil means to get the will and land ownership, the rightful heir and his brothers go get it back.

The movie was classic Shaw Bros. Classic. Cheezy themes. Influence of HK culture applied to old traditional Chinese culture. Kara Hui tries to get a little sexy for comedy relief. It all adds up to be extremely fun movie. However, it does drag and the fighting is predictable.

Clan of the White Lotus - Fist of the White Lotus - 洪文定三破白蓮教

Clan of the White Lotus (洪文定三破白蓮教) is a 1980 Shaw Bros. martial arts film. The film stars Lo Lieu and Gordon Liu. Supporting cast include Kara Hui and Yeung Jing-Jing. This movie is a sequel to "Executioners From Shaolin".

Gordon Liu plays Hung Wei Ting. The government says that shaolin disciples can go back to normal life. However, its just a ploy to shake them out so they can be eliminated. Hung saves Mei from death, but vows revenge on another Lotus Clan master. However, Hung's kung fu isn't good enough and he is defeated. But Hung doesn't give up, he spends time researching other styles in an effort to defeat the Lotus Clan master. Will he have success?

This movie is one of the late classics. You can see that the kung fu is still old skool, but with some wire work. But in general, its straight up fighting for fighting sake. You have to create a story so they can fight. What better reason than revenge?

Not great and just average.
