Love In A Puff - 志明與春嬌

Love In A Puff (志明與春嬌) is a 2010 film out of Hong Kong. The movie stars Shawn Yue and Miriam Yeung. The film received many accolades in the HK film circle. Almost as a return to making movies for the HK audience.

Shawn Yue plays Jimmy, a person in the ad business. Jimmy's caught his girlfriend cheating and they split up. However, the girlfriend starts to publicly date the person now and they all work at the same company. Miriam Yeung plays Cherrie, a mall clerk who's with a wandering eye boyfriend. The two meet up to smoke outside. They strike up a very friendly friendship. To the point that some people think they're dating. But if you ask them, its just "smoking buddy" status.

This movie was very HK for me. From the locations to the cig buying, all things only HK residents would know. I had no clue and just had to roll with it. Which is it good point and bad point. So HK that it turned me off a little, but also made me think about 80s and 90s flare that was so HK, like Chungking Express. This was no Chungking Express, but it was a movie for HK folks.

Elixir of Love - 花好月圓

Elixir of Love (花好月圓) is a 2004 film out of Hong Kong. The movie stars Richie Ren and Miriam Yeung.

Miriam Yeung plays the only daughter of the Emperor, Heung. But Heung was born with a rare disease, she stinks all the time. Heung is now at an age of marriage, the Emperor challenges the citizens. Whoever can cure the Princess of her odor can marry her. Richie Ren plays Shum, a laborer with an extreme love for flowers and fragrances. Shum enters the contest and makes it to the final two. He has 3 months to come up with a winning solution. Shum retreats back to his village and starts to experiment with different cures. Shum befriends a group of fish mongers and experiments with them. Among these fish mongers is Princess Heung in disguise. Shum and Heung eventually become close and may be falling for each other. Who will Shum choose, the princess in the palace or the stinky fish monger that's in front of him.

The movie was right up Richie Ren's ally in the 1999-2005 era of romantic comedies. My wife is a fan of Richie's music and subsequently his movies. But by 2004, she wasn't watching much anymore. The movie has a predictable formula. I'll be honest, it crept up my netflix and it came. I wasn't ready for it, but it was enjoyable for the most part. Maybe if I watched in 2004, it would have been better.

I wasn't able to find a trailer, just a MV on YouTube.

Hooked On You - 每當變幻時

Hooked On You (每當變幻時) is a 2007 film out of Hong Kong starring Miriam Yeung and Eason Chan.

The movie was related to the 10th anniversery of the turnover in 1997. The movie spans 1997-2007. Within that time, we follow Miriam as Miu and Eason as Fishman. Miu is a fishmonger at Fortune Market and Eason is a rival fish monger. Miu and Fishman start to fall for one another. But Miu does not want to marry into her current "class", but wants to marry up so she doesn't have to work so hard. Miu and Fishman have this back and forth in the film. Will they or will they not get together situations.

HK events from 1997-2007 were brought up as landmarks in the 10 years. From the turnover, to SARS, to modern super centers.

I was bored watching this film. I am no HK resident and some of the events didn't register until I read other reviews for it. Catch it if you're a Miriam or Eason fan. If you're not a fan, skip it.

Drink Drank Drunk - 千杯不醉

Drink Drank Drunk (千杯不醉) is a 2005 movie out of Hong Kong starring Daniel Wu and Miriam Yeung. Miriam Yeung plays a frugal beer girl that hasn't gotten drunk before. Daniel Wu plays a world travel trained in classical French food. When they meet and fall in love. They must reconcile each others dreams and the reality of settling down.

I thought it was a touching film, but ultimately was a let down because I didn't fully believe the romance. The romance kind of just happened. There didn't seem like there was any chemistry between the two.

Also, the cover is whacked. Miriam's clothes never get that revealing. Also, I think its just Miriam's head photoshopped onto the cover body. Really bad cover. Selling something that never really happens.

My Lucky Star - 行運超人

My Lucky Star (行運超人) was a light hearted romantic comedy starring Tony Leung Chiu Wai (梁朝偉) and Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅).

The story is based on Miriam's character having extremely bad luck and accidentally bumps into Tony, who's a feng shui expert. However, as they start to fall for each other, the past lives of before are revealed and they cannot be lovers due to the destiny set in the stars. They over come this and live happily ever after!

I enjoyed the movie because its a role I don't see Tony play all that often in his recent years.

You can actually catch the whole movie via Netflix or on Youtube.

I've been a big fan of Tony since his Duke of Mount Deer TVB days.
