72 Tenants of Prosperity - 七十二家房客

72 Tenants of Prosperity (七十二家房客) is a 2010 Chinese New Years film out of Hong Kong. The movie stars a who's who of HK stardom. The main three stars are Eric Tsang, Jacky Cheung, and Anita Yuen. Bosco Wong, Linda Chung, Stephy Tang, and Wong Cho Lam round the supporting cast.

Movie starts in the past where 3 youths prevent local landlords from taking advantage of the tenants. These three youths grow up to modern day Eric Tsang, Jacky Cheung, and Anita Yuen. Eric Tsang and Anita Yuen, are now married. Eric Tsang and Jacky Cheung have competing cell phone stores and are rivals. Even their children get in on the act. But they become lovers from rivals. Watch out for all the homages to other HK films of recent times.

The movie was a jumbled mess. The main storyline of Eric Tsang, Jacky Cheung, and Anita Yuen was quite weak and than their children fall in love with each other? And than you have a nemesis from the past?

I guess Chinese New Years movies like this really don't have to be good, but just get butts in the seats. Watching this months after Chinese New Years and being in the states, the movie is a pass from me.

Poker King - 撲克王

Poker King (撲克王) is a 2009 film out of Hong Kong. The movie stars Louis Koo, Sean Lau, and Stephy Tang. Supporting cast include Cherrie Ying, Josie Ho, Jo Kuk, and Kama Lo. Although this movie is from Hong Kong, almost all of it takes place in Macau.

The story is about Poker! Texas Hold 'em Poker. All the rage on the sports channels in the US. Is Poker even a sport? Throwing chips and cards takes a lot of skill. Louis Koo plays Jack, the heir to a casino in Macau. Sean Lau plays Uno, the current head of the casino after Jack's father passes away. Uno brings Jack in to help him run the casino. But Jack's a computer poker king, but not very good at the table. Uno forces Jack out of the casino. Jack roams the streets of Macau and finds Smiley, played by Stephy Tang. Jack and Smiley form a partnership. Jack gets better and better. Will Jack have enough to face Uno again?

The movie was really loose. The plot was everywhere. The gals were really pretty, but the story didn't flow well. But I actually enjoyed it. It's worth a watch, but don't expect it to be good.

Love Connected - 保持愛你

Love Connected (保持愛你) is a 2009 film out of Hong Kong. The movie stars many many people, including Stephy Tang, Justin Lo, Chelsea Tong, Miki Yeung, Kay Tse, and Celina Jade. Wow, that's a whole lot of people and I didn't even include everyone!

The movie has many interconnected stories and the connections are very very loose.

Stephy Tang and Justin Lo - Bo and Wai
Bo is hearing impaired and Wai is the lead singer of a band. How can a deaf flower shop clerk enter the musical world of Wai. Using the iPod stupid!

Kay Tse and Joey Leung - Debbie and Joey
Debbie is the owner of the flowershop Bo works at. Debbie is in the process of separating from her husband, Joey. Debbie remembers the good times and they eat at the site of their first Valentine's. Debbie is into purses as well and search endlessly for the perfect one. But when it is found, she moves on. Just like from her husband.

Chelsa Tong and Terry Wu - Fong and Fung
Fong is a push over at work with her over the top boss. Fung is a office co-worker that takes to liking Fong. Fong puts Fung on a 3 month probation where they can't kiss or even hold hands. How's that for probation!

Sammy as Fai has his own storyline. One that includes Celina Jade as a stewardess. Fai is connected to the story via the flower shop where he shops regularly.

Miki Yeung has an storyline with 2 dorks that broadcast to a chat that they need dates. With whom Yeung character of Goldfish responds. We find out at the end that Goldfish is in a way connected to Fai's storyline.

What a jumbled mess. In the end, it was Kay Tse and Miki that made me stay along for the ride. I've been a fan of Miki for the past few years. Kay Tse is new to me and has quite a unique look. I hope to see more of both.

La Lingerie - 內衣少女

La Lingerie (內衣少女) is a 2008 movie out of Hong Kong. It was released the same day that the 2008 Beijing Olympics started. Starring Stephy Tang, Janice Man, JJ Jia, Kathy Yuen, and Ronald Cheng.

The movie follows Stephy Tang as Miu as she tries to find "love". Miu is a bra researcher. Miu's aunt dies and leaves her apt for half a year. Miu moves in with her best friend, Janice Man as Donut. Downstairs, Kathy Yuen as Celine is a strange neighbor looking to marry a well to do guy, without love. Donut works at a bra store and JJ Jia as CC is a call girl that shops there for new bras frequently. So, all four girls are interconnected in some way to Miu.

The movie does feature a lot of skin and a showing of the next wave for HK's female leads. Janice Man, JJ Jia, and Kathy Yuen remind me of when Cherrie Ying burst onto the scene in the early 2000s. Stephy is already in a lot of movies the last 4 years. Of the 4, I liked JJ and Kathy Yuen the best. I am looking forward to what they do with their careers.

Ronald Cheng as Miu's boss and getting Miu at the end of the film was a major stretch and was totally unbelievable. What can you do?
