花漾 - Ripples Of Desire - Upcoming

花漾 (Ripples Of Desire)is an Taiwan movie release last month in December 2012. It stars a lot of famous people from Taiwan entertainment. And a couple of HK veterans help the cause.

Jerry! That's enough for me to watch this movie.

愛的麵包魂 - The Soul Of Bread - Upcoming

愛的麵包魂 (The Soul Of Bread) is being released in Taipei this weekend. The movie's Zhong Wen title translates to "Love Bread Ghost" or "Loving Bread Lover". It's a stretch for Soul, but hey, it sounds better than the literal translation.

The movie stars the most excellent Michelle Chen that seems to have to make a choice between two most non-excellent men. And baking breads will make the difference.

I hope the movie is better than the trailer. I am in only because the movie has Michelle Chen!

聽說 - Hear Me

聽說 (Hear Me) is an 2009 film out of Taiwan. The movie stars Eddie Peng and Ivy Chen. The supporting cast also includes the lovely Michelle Chen. The movie was released in support of the 2009 deaf olympics in Taipei.

Eddie Peng plays Tian Kuo, a delivery person working at his parents cantonese restaurant. Ivy Chen plays Yang Yang, the sister of an deaf swimmer, Hsiao Peng, played by Michelle Chen. Tian Kuo delivers food to their swimming site one day and takes a liking to Yang Yang. They communicate in sign language. Although Tian Kuo isn't deaf and takes up sign language as an hobby. Due to his liking of Yang Yang, he studies extremely hard to keep up with her and learns new ways to express himself. Yang Yang however is too busy trying to make money, that she doesn't take to Tian Kuo's advances. However, Tian Kuo doesn't give up. In the meantime, there's the issue of marrying a deaf person that's addressed and actually handled pretty gracefully.

I have watched the movie twice already and found out more about the leads with the second watching. In all, this may be one of my favorite romantic comedies I've seen in quite some time. Eddie Peng is an endearing male lead that lets love lead the way. Ivy Chen gives an cute and subtle performance as an younger sister that's willing to sacrifice for her family. Add that to a very unique storyline, you've got a, dear I say, great movie?

If you're a recent fan of Taiwanese cinema, this is a must see gem. All three leads have gone on to bigger and more hyped movies, but this movie could be the one that will establish their legacy for years to come.

I had an "upcoming" post for this movie back in the summer of 2009. It has since become one of my most visited post.

那些年,我們一起追的女孩 - You're The Apple Of My Eye - Upcoming

那些年,我們一起追的女孩 (You're The Apple Of My Eye) was released in Taipei last week. Jiubadao’s (九把刀 or “Nine Knives”) is whom this movie is based on and it entails a coming of age story set in Jibbadao's past. From what I can gleam from the clips and trailer released, this movie takes story telling into the bedroom of an adolescent boy's mind and spills outward. Commonplace for cinemas here in the US, a la American Pie and its rip offs, its finally made its way to good ol' Taipei.

I am a fan of Michelle Chen and would watch this movie for her even if it suck "balls". Ha, get it? ;-) However, the rest of the cast from the trailer leave much to be desired. As does the storyline. At my age, its annoying to watch "boys" find themselves, figuratively and literally for this film.

It's already broken major record records in Taipei at the box office. Good for them. On this end, I am looking forward to it, but in a much more subdued way.

初戀風暴 - The Tempests of First Love - Upcoming

初戀風暴 (The Tempests of First Love) is being released in Taiwan on November 26. The movie stars Tony Yang and Michelle Chen.

From the trailer, the two stars stalk Tony's father whom appears to be having an affair. Where that goes...its unknown. At least to me.

Looks prettying interesting and worth a watch in my book.

聽說 - Hear Me - Upcoming

聽說 (Hear Me) is an upcoming film out of Taiwan. The movie stars Eddie Peng and Ivy Chen. The supporting cast also includes the lovely Michelle Chen. The movie is scheduled for release in Taipei next week on August 28, 2009.

The movie is a romance between a deaf swimmer played by Ivy Chen and her admirer played by Eddie Peng.

From the trailer, it looks like Eddie falls for Ivy. Ivy is deaf and with the relationship comes the hard task of communication. Sign language.

I am going to look for this movie as it makes it way to Los Angeles.

Help support this movie, not only for Taiwan cinema but also for the hearing impaired.

不良笑花 - Miss No Good

不良笑花 (Miss No Good) is a 2008 drama out of Taiwan. It ran for 14 episodes on CTS from September to December. It stars Rainie Yang, Wilber Pan, Dean Fujioka, and Michelle Chen. I had a first thoughts a few months back.

Yupe, it took me a few months to finish. On and off, I watched half the series with my wife. When it became apparent that my wife wasn't going to be able to finish it, I watched the second half by myself. I think I would have chopped it to 11 episodes. Episodes 12 and 13 dragged. Because I watched it while washing dishes, I couldn't fast forward the parts that dragged. Episode 14 was like 75% flashbacks. The series started super funny, got super serious, and tried to end on the funny side. For the most part, 小花 stayed true to her character. I've seen Rainie through the years and this may be my favorite from her.

小花 was so interesting and they presented her as a kid in an adult world. So many mannerisms reminded me of my 3 and half year old daughter. From the "looking up" as she talks. Putting her fingers together in nervous situations. Sucking her thumb when she sleeps. Confused look when things don't make sense.

As much as I liked the first half, it had to get serious in the second half and add the drama. But it came full circle and it was a nice ride.

Wilbur Pan puts in a good leading performance.

I picked up my copy from AMAX.

不良笑花 - Miss No Good - First Thoughts

I've been watching 不良笑花 (Miss No Good) starring Rainie Yang, Wilbur Pan, Michelle Chen, and Dean Fujioka.

Its one of those rare series that makes my LOL on a constant basis. Partly because Rainie's character is so much like my 3 year old daughter. The temperament, the gestures, the comedy of it all.

I am about half way through now and am loving it.
