Star Trek Beyond - 星際爭霸戰:浩瀚無垠

Star Trek Beyond (星際爭霸戰:浩瀚無垠) is an 2016 film. The movie stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella, and Anton Yelchin. This is the third installment of the rebooted Star Trek from 2009 and it's sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. This is also one of Justin Lin's few movies outside of the Fast & Furious film franchise.

Kirk is having a mid life crisis and tries to find meaning in life. Spock seems to be going through some things too. As are the rest of the crew. When they go out for a recovery mission, but everything goes wrong and they get stranded or captured. They must rely on some locals that turn out to be mystery Starfleet crew from long ago that disappeared. When all is said and done, can they all survive and stay together?

I must say that the third time around, I wasn't so interested in their story. I think Justin Lin got dealt a raw deal from Abram's camp. The movie flopped as a result. But its Star Trek, they are successful and than flop and come back again. There's enough of a message in the franchise to keep it going.

Hell or High Water - 赴湯蹈火

Hell or High Water (赴湯蹈火) is an 2016 film. The movie stars Chris Pine, Ben Foster, and Jeff Bridges. The supporting cast include Gil Birmingham, Marin Ireland, and Katy Mixon.

Chris Pine amd Ben Foster play two brothers that rob banks. Jeff Bridges plays the cop on their tales. Its a cops and robbers chase and who will win. The brothers both have their problems and the cop is weeks from retirement.

This movie was excellent. Robbers rob a bank, the cops go after them. Simple? No way, not this era where there's always a sentimental reason someone choses the life of crime. This movie makes you feel for the robbers. That they are good for robbing banks. Giving it to the man right?

Beyond that point, Chris Pine, Ben Foster, and Jeff Bridges were amazing in this film. The brother dynamics and the cop breaking the crime down to chase them. Excellent.

Wonder Woman - 神力女超人

Wonder Woman (神力女超人) is an 2017 film. The movie stars Gal Gadot and Chris Pine. The supporting cast include Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Connie Nielsen, and Elena Anaya. This movie takes place in the DCEU.

Diana is working at a museum when she receives a photo during World War I and recalls her past. Back to her time on Themyscira or also known as Paradise Island. There, Diana was trained from an early age to be a warrior with no match. During World War I, Diana sees a plane crash land off the coast. Diana immediately springs into action and saves the person, but the Germans pursue him and find the island. A deadly battle ensues where the Amazon's primitive weapons took heavy causalities to modern guns. Diana decides to go stop the war. The adventure begins.

The movie was pretty fun to watch. Many plot holes but every movie has them. In this case, no explanation is given to why she goes silent for almost another hundred years before battling Doomsday. But that's not the point, Diana needs to join the Justice League.

It's been on HBO recently and I've stopped to watch bits here and there, but never kept on to the end. Not sure why, but once through was enough for me.

People Like Us

People Like Us is an 2012 film. The movie stars Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks. The supporting cast include Olivia Wilde, Jon Favreau, and Michelle Pfeiffer. I caught this movie on HBO a year or so back.

The movie start with Chris Pine's character Sam Harper returning home to Los Angeles for the funeral of his father. When he arrives back home, his mother is not all that happy to see him as he has not been back much since college. While going through his father's belongings, he finds money that he needs very much. But he finds a note that says the money goes to Josh Davis. Sam eventually finds Josh and his mother, Frankie Davis, played by Elizabeth Banks. Frankie is Sam's half sister and Josh is his nephew. Sam decides to stick around while trying to figure out if he should keep the money. Along the way, Sam forces his way into Frankie and Josh's life. Will Sam find redemption?

The movie was slow and took awhile to develop. I was washing dishes so I let it run. I don't think I missed much. But the movie was entertaining enough. Pine is a charismatic leading man and Banks also keeps your attention. What got me hooked was what he would do with the money. Keep it for himself or give it to Josh Davis? The home life Sam had with his mother was also of interest. In the end, I enjoyed the movie.

Star Trek Into Darkness - 闇黑無界:星際爭霸戰 - 星空奇遇記:黑域時空 - 星際迷航:暗黑無界

Star Trek Into Darkness (闇黑無界：星際爭霸戰) is an 2013 film. The movie stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Benedict Cumberbatch. The supporting cast include John Cho, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Bruce Greenwood, Peter Weller, and Alice Eve. Leonard Nimoy makes a cameo as Spock Prime. This is the second installment of the current Star Trek film franchise and the last to be directed by J. J. Abrams. Abrams will be moving on to the Star Wars franchise.

James and Doc run through the woods of an planet the Enterprise is exploring. While Spock, Sulu, and Uhara are trying to neutralize an exploding volcano. Instead they reveal themselves to a primitive race. As such, the Enterprise is taken away from Kirk and he's made the 1st captain of Enterprise when its given back to Pike. In the meantime, a certain individual has bombed an library and than attacked senior star fleet officers killing Pike. Kirk has his ship back and they head out to kill this madman. Just one thing though, its in Klingon territory.

This movie was quite awesome. That little summary does it no justice, but I can't give away the main plot points. You need to watch it. On the big screen if you can. The space they travel is quite majestic and the space ships really look like they are from the future. A last hurrah for the bad robot crew as they shift their attention to Star Wars.
