Godzilla: King of the Monsters - Godzilla 2 - 哥吉拉II怪獸之王

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (哥吉拉II怪獸之王) is an 2019 film. The movie stars Godzilla! The large supporting cast include Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, Aisha Hinds, O'Shea Jackson Jr., David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe, and Zhang Ziyi. This is a sequel to the first Godzilla (哥吉拉) and connected to the Kong: Skull Island (金剛:骷髏島). Only a couple of cast return for this edition.

In the after math of the monster attacks, the devastation left many dead. Fast forward 5 years later, a scientist develops a new technology to contact the monsters directly. When the monsters start to wake up, the best bet is to resurrect Godzilla to help them stop the new monsters. King Gidorah is the prime monster that the rest of the monsters answer to, but Godzilla isn't happy about it and they need to settle the score. Can Godzilla rise to the occasion and stop King Gidorah?

This movie was made for the epic scale. The movie had a super complicated back story to go along with the main story of Godzilla vs. King Gidorah. Throw in all the human stuff, you have a action packed movie. You don't really need to know Godzilla (哥吉拉) to follow this movie. However, the old Godzilla movies had many of the monsters that they used in this movie, such as Rodan and Mothra.

And this is all to lead into next summer's Godzilla vs. King Kong movie on Skull island movie, Godzilla vs. Kong.

First Man - 登月先鋒

First Man (登月先鋒) is an 2018 film. The movie stars Ryan Gosling. The supporting cast include Claire Foy, Jason Clarke, and Kyle Chandler. The movie is based on the life of Neil A. Armstrong, the first man to step foot on the moon.

The movie starts with Neil's plight as a test pilot and his application to the space program for the astronaut program. Neil gets in and moves to Houston with his family. The families of the program all live in the same neighborhood. The wives end up getting to know each other. As the film progress over a roughly 8 year period of trying to land on the moon. It starts with runs into the earth orbits to try things all the way to the landing on the moon. Along the way, we see the life of Neil unfold in bits and pieces. You can't cover 8 years of life in a 2 hour film, but they try.

The film was a pretty slow movie. They try to take a very extreme close up view from the shaking that happens on the aircrafts. I just ended up getting a headache and not watching and I watched it at home. If I were in the movie theatre, I might have thrown up. The story presentation was also very uneven, it goes through the space program life really fast and the lack of real character development makes following them a bit less emotionally attached. In the end, my thought was, finally over. I also fell asleep a couple of times and had to rewind.

I picked this up via T-Mobile Tuesday's Redbox promotion.

The Wolf of Wall Street - 華爾街之狼

The Wolf of Wall Street (華爾街之狼) is 2013 film. The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill. The extensive supporting cast include Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Jon Bernthal, and Cristin Milioti. The film is directed by Martin Scorsese.

Leonardo plays Jordan Belfort. Belfort is a rags to riches story. Belfort works on wall street out of college and loses his job. As a last resort, Belfort takes a job selling penny stocks. Belfort works his way up the chain and becomes a millionaire. Along the way, he does drugs and lots of women. The Feds start to track him and take him down. Belfort has to find a way to hide his money from the feds too. His firm also has very successful people that are very loyal to Belfort. Who will win this cat and mouse chase between Belfort the Feds?

This was an entertaining movie. A story where you disliked the main character, but wanted to continue. You most likely continued because of how ridiculous it was. How is it that Belfort can get away with this? That was what drew me to the end. I disliked Belfort and his cohorts. Not a lot of redeeming values in their life. They used the system to take advantage of a lot of people. What they did will never be repaid, even time in prison. I watched it once and that's it. Its available on my Amazon Prime and its been on various cable channels recently, but I haven't bothered to watch it.
