The Painted Veil - 面紗 (猜心)

The Painted Veil - (面紗/猜心) is a 2006 film starring Edward Norton, Naomi Watts, and Anthony Wong.

A British couple played by Edward Norton and Naomi Watts lands in Shanghai, China and eventually to a countryside outside of Shanghai. The majority of the movie is based in China, but its just a backdrop to the main story, the relationship between Edward Norton and Naomi Watts.

It does present the common white man saves the asians storyline in a slightly different way. This time, its through medicine.

Anthony Wong plays KMT general that gives Edward Norton's character a hand.

You can buy it on Amazon or rent it via Netflix.

天使情人 - Angel Lover

I happened onto 天使情人 (Angel Lover) in early February and March of 2007. I was running out of Wusia series to watch and hadn't watched a Taiwanese idol drama in awhile. The picture looked good and I rented the first disc. Man, was I hooked. I watched the series of 40 episodes within the next couple of weeks. I bought the OST on YesAsia shortly after.

Angel lover stars Ming Dao, Bianca Bai, and Coco Jiang. The lovely Janel Tsai is featured in a story arc.

The premise of the series is that Ming Dao is a optimistic good guy down on his luck. A company that works on an Angel's behalf helps people find their true love. They recruit Ming Dao and he goes to work and finds himself and his love interest. Along the way, Ming Dao and the rest of the Angel Lover cast are assigned tasks separated out into different story arcs. In all, there are roughly 10 stories and some subplots.

4 of those story arcs are quite good! The arcs with Janel Tsai, Li Jia Ying, and Lian Ti were my favorite. The main story arc is Ming Dao and its wrapped up in the end of the series.

Ming Dao's character reminds me of Zhang Wu Ji of "The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber" but in modern times and its not martial arts as his weapon, its his heart.

The ladies of the series are all very lovely and very very easy on the eyes. Bianca Bai has a very prominent role here and grew on me. I was really digging her at the end of the series and she's one of my favorite up and coming actresses.

Since I rented the version I watch, I ended up purchasing one off ebay and convincing my wife to watch it. My wife really liked it too, but thought 40 episode was way too much. I would've enjoyed another 20 more!

Haha, watch the clips, pick up the DVDs from ebay and watch for youself.

I had orginally wrote about Angel Lover back in March 2007, here's the excerpt:
It may hold a place in my heart as the best I've seen in years. Its out of Taiwan called "Angel Lover" starring Ming Dao, Bianca Bai, and Coco Jiang. I immediately felt an affiliation with the lead's character, personality, and sense of humor. The lead's love interest was just as, if not more, interesting. The series has distinct story arcs and I only fast forwarded through one of the arcs. The songs are pretty catchy as well. I'll have to search for the OST around town. I have no idea where the story originated from but I thought it was quite unique and kept me on board for most the ride.

仙劍奇俠傳 - The Sword and the Fairy (Chinese Paladin)

The Sword and the Fairy or Chinese Paladin ( 仙劍奇俠傳) was released here in the states on February 24, 2009 by Tai Seng. You can get at Amazon or rent it via Netflix.

The wuxia fantasy swordplay series stars He Ge and Crystal Liu Yifei of Forbidden Kingdom fame.

I sorta gave it a shot to watch this back around 2005/2006 but never finished it. Mainly because the story was whacked. Based off a popular video game from 1995. Here's the story description from Netflix:
Fate has big plans for a simple young man (Ge Hu) to become a gifted swordsman. But in the course of living out his destiny, he must take on an onslaught of formidable foes, including vampires, demons and evil spirits. Yixuan An and Yifei Liu co-star in this martial arts fantasy from director Kwok-Lap Lee, an epic tale set in ancient China and told in the tradition of Hark Tsui's classic Zu: Warriors from the Magic Mountain.
That Netflix description is only a bit of the madness I witness before calling it quits halfway through the series. I'll give it a shot again later this year just to see what all the fuss is again as the sequel series Chinese Paladin 3 is released this summer.

America's Best Dance Crew (Season 3) - Episode 8 - Live Finale

America's Best Dance Crew (Season 3) - Episode 8 - The Season Finale is online and available for viewing.

Quest Crew is this season's Champion. I thought that week after week, their performances were amazing and always had a wow factor.

For the finale show, the routines by Shane Sparks and JC's crews were the best. It was also nice to see both Quest Crew and Beat Freaks dance together before the results were announced.

I enjoyed this season more than both Seasons 1 and 2. I was rather disappointed at season 2 in general and thought it was quite forgettable. Season 1 should have come down to Kaba and Jabba. Kaba's Thriller performance is still amazing.

Good job to the judges and voters for getting Quest and Beat Freaks to the finals.

I might have voted about 500+ times. I had the vote page up all week and voted whenever a program was loading, loading a email, etc. I have the page up still and its still letting me vote!

I am inspired to go dancing man. Well, only in my dreams (yes, that's a Debbie Gibson reference +_+).

不良笑花 - Miss No Good - First Thoughts

I've been watching 不良笑花 (Miss No Good) starring Rainie Yang, Wilbur Pan, Michelle Chen, and Dean Fujioka.

Its one of those rare series that makes my LOL on a constant basis. Partly because Rainie's character is so much like my 3 year old daughter. The temperament, the gestures, the comedy of it all.

I am about half way through now and am loving it.
