球愛天空 (Baseball Love) was released in Taipei last November in 2012! Okay, I am a little late with this one. But I have to cover it! It stars hometown boy, Vanness Wu. And its a baseball movie! Baseball is great when you play it, not when you watch it.
樂之路 (Road Less Traveled) is an upcoming film being released in Taipei on December 2, 2011. The movie stars Van Ness Wu, Jimmy Hung, Dean Fujioka, Eric Tu, and Christopher Lung.
From the trailer, it looks like a rags to riches story of a band. Van Ness has very long hair, so I'll have to date this movie his pre Autumn Concerto days. Looks like all these fellas are also raised aboard.
Looking forward to the movie. Especially Van and Xian Zi.
Woohoo! 拜金女王 (Material Queen) is finally set to be released in Taiwan on June 17th! The idol drama will star Van Ness Wu, Lynn Hung, and Daniel Chan. Seems to be a story of riches again. Seems you can't go through many dramas without something of "Rich" vs. "Poor". A very different concept than what's here in the US.
However, I am looking forward to this series. The first one in a long time for me. Hope its a good one.
Van Ness Wu and Phillip Wu made a mockumentary in the throes of HK. Vanness dons a funky British accent and tries to prove he's famous.
I was laughing pretty much the whole time. If you haven't been following Vanness's life these past 6 months, you'll miss the absurdly of lots of the conversation. Especially the "when is the last time you had...".
I am from The Heights area of the greater Los Angeles area and have actually seen Van around town. If I am not mistaken, Van resides in The Heights when he comes back to the US where his parents live. However, I've never seen anyone approach him for a photo. If I do bump into him in the future, I'll make sure to ask him to sign my death warrant.
If you're a Vanness Wu fan, you need to check the whole thing out. Props to Phillip for making it Blair Witch style but with less shaking.
There are way too many comments on the YouTube and AliveNotDead post, but it seems that the "mockumentary" part is lost on many. Mockumentary means that everything is meant to mock the premise of the film. The lady in the store was prolly in on it.
Kung Fu Chefs (功夫廚神) is a 2009 film out of Hong Kong. The movie stars Sammo Hung, Vanness Wu, Cherrie Ying, and Kago Ai.
The movie is about the kung fu art of making Chinese food. Sammo Hung, as Bing Yi, is the master chef of his village. During a banquet, he's frame and subsequently kicked out. Vanness Wu is Kin, a recent graduate of a culinary school. Kin wants to increase his skills and seeks another master chef. When he seeks this master at Four Seas restaurant. But the master chef he seeks has just been defeated. Kin now joins Bing Yi's team. Learning the skills from the master, Kin's skills increase and is a force to be dealt with in the culinary world.
With Kung Fu, you have to have a competition and revenge. Queue the reason for the action and fight scenes.
A fun watch, but it has a lot of cheezy low grade effects. This reminds of 80s style HK movies.
下一站,幸福 is set for release next month and SETTV released the first teaser for it. It's a comeback for Ady An to Taiwanese dramas and a starring role for Vanness Wu. Both no longer possess the youthfulness of their F4 and Outsider days, but this seems to be a more mature drama aimed at young professionals to young adults. Although I am no longer part of that demographic, I still have a few years left before this stuff is like cartoons to me.
I'll be looking for this series when it makes it state side at the beginning of 2010. But there are plenty of ways of getting it before than. I just rather watch it via DVDs. Call me old skool!
My translation for 下一站,幸福 is Next Stop, Happiness. Let's see what the marketing folks in Taiwan end up with.
