Girl$ - 囡囡
Girl$ (囡囡) is a 2010 film out of Hong Kong. The movie stars Bonnie Xian, Michalle Wai, Venus Wong, and Una Lin. The movie is based entirely in Hong Kong and explores a different aspect of prostitution, online date matching.
The Cast
Bonnie Xian - Ronnie
Venus Wong - Gucci
Michelle Wai - Icy
Una Lin - Lin
The story of 4 gals that get into prostitution. Ronnie is a rich girl who's parents are out of the country and looks to fill her loniness with a paid date. Gucci wants a purse really badly and is willing to sell her virginity to get it. Icy wants to buy her useless boyfriend a new computer. Lin is looking for love through paid dates. All four of these girls have problems. They are willing to sell themselves to obtain their goals. in 2 of the cases, money is not the issue. With the other two cases, it is to obtain material possessions. You see them at their high point and at their low points.
The movie was pretty disturbing. It's a trend that seems to be a reflection of lack of family values within the society. A recent LA Times article highlights something similar in China, "For some Chinese college students, sex is a business opportunity". In Japan, enjo kosai has been around for quite some time. And enjo kosai has spread to other countries as well.
With two daughters, it breaks my heart to know that these women would consider this acceptable. In the movie, there seems to be little interaction between the ladies and their parents. If you remember the 1995 films, Kids, you'll also notice a real lack of adult or mature interaction in their lives. It can be societies fault for this, but it starts at home and their parents.
I was actually surprised at the amount of sexual content and nudity considering the director does not have a history of this.
