Pacific Rim Uprising - 環太平洋2:起義時刻

Pacific Rim Uprising (環太平洋2:起義時刻) is an 2018 film. The movie stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, and Jing Tian. The film is the sequel to the original film Pacific Rim.

10 years after the events of the Kaiju, the earth has fallen into a sense of peace that it hasn't experienced in years. However, the peace is disturbed when the Kaiju figure out a way back to earth. The forces of earth are not prepared to take on the new challenge as the troupes are not as well trained and not battle ready. Can they survive? Who will emerge as the new heroes?

This film takes the campiness of the first film and embraces it. Men are macho and the women are even more so. With teenage angst and father abandonment issues aside, the pilots need to get their act together and drift. However, the conflicts of the first film resolved, this generation in this film are just very inexperienced.

I however would not recommend this film if you didn't at least enjoy the first. This installment assumes you've already seen the first movie.

Kong: Skull Island - 金剛:骷髏島

Kong: Skull Island (金剛:骷髏島) is an 2017 film. The movie is an ensemble cast that includes Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson, Jing Tian, Toby Kebbell, John Ortiz, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, Shea Whigham, Thomas Mann, Terry Notary, and John C. Reilly. The movie reboots the King Kong monster for the modern times and is the second movie of Legendary's MonsterVerse. The first being the recent Godzilla (哥吉拉) reboot. The two franchises will meet someday.

There is a secret island in the South Pacific. During WWII, two pilot crash land there, the Japanese and US pilots clash but are interrupted by a monster. Fast forward to the 70s. A group of researchers identify a strange island that needs investigation. However, in order to get there, a lot of parties join the fray. And all of them have there own agenda when they get there. As each group seemly tries to destroy the island. The protector of the island gets involved. King Kong of course. Can they get out of the island alive? Will Kong climb the Empire State building. Inquiring minds want to know.

This movie was well made. The addition of Jing Tian is to attract the Zhong Guo market. When seems like they did better than Godzilla. As a movie, I was entertained. Even though Samuel L. Jackson's character was cray cray, it had to done to move the story along. Lots and lots of beautiful people in this movie which make watching this movie a breeze. Not gonna watch it a second. It's been on rerun on HBO recently and haven't stopped to watch once. I got this via Redbox back in the day.

Shadows Of Love - Repeat I Love You - 影子愛人

Shadows Of Love (Repeat I Love You/影子愛人) is an 2011 film out of Zhong Guo. The movie was made jointly with Korean and Hong Kong investors, thus the movie is multinational. The movie stars Cecilia Cheung, Kwon Sang-woo, Angela Zhang, Jing Tian, and Sphinx Ting.

Cecilia is Paris, the CEO of a large company. In the middle of a large business deal, Paris goes missing. Her closest friends finds a look alike in florist Qin Xin. But they must teach a country bumpkin the high society. Can they do it in time to close the deal?

This movie was pretty entertaining. I think because it was such a outrageous premise, I went along with it, knowing that anything the story throws at you will be more than acceptable as the main premise is already out there. So, events line up one after the other to challenge if this bumpkin can really be "trained" for high society. Everyone in the film is good looking. You want to cheer them on.

My Belle Boss - 我的美女老板

My Belle Boss (我的美女老板) is a 2010 film out of Zhong Guo. The movie stars Peter Ho and Jing Tian. The supporting cast include Annie Wu and Waise Lee. Directed by Li Hong.

Peter Ho plays Yang, a computer game programmer looking for a job. On a strange day, he bumps into a young hipster gal. They hit it off and because good friends. Yang lands a job at a game company, but comes to find out that the boss looks like the hipster gal. When confronted, hipster gal says that it's her twin sister. Yang ends up becoming good friends with both boss and hipster gal.

This is a light romantic comedy featuring a likable lead in Peter Ho and a breath of fresh air in Jing Tian. There seemed to be chemistry between the two from the get go. I really related to Peter's role and character.

Although much of the movie plays to the obvious, the ending and outcome were not. Actually, I was a little more than confused. But the majority of the movie was light and enjoyable.

It's not artsy. It's not trying to be deep. It's trying to present a light rom-com. Just watch it if you're a Peter fan. Or watch it for the stunning Jing Tian.
