Draft Day - 超級選秀日

Draft Day (超級選秀日) is an 2014 film. The films stars Kevin Costner. The large supporting cast includes Jennifer Garner and Denis Leary.

Costner plays Sonny Weaver, Jr., the General Manager of Cleveland Browns. They trade up from their seventh overall pick to the top pick. Sonny is not expected to draft the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Wisconsin quarterback Bo Callahan. But he would rather shore up the defense with linebacker Vontae Mack of Ohio State. Sonny stars his research of both players and takes other offers. To top it all off, there's Sonny's ex-wife, deceased father, semi-senile mother, over reach owner, and a girlfriend in the workplace scenario all thrown in for some extra drama.

If you're a football sports fan. You'll enjoy this. It's like a amped up version of NFL live but behind the scenes. Costner puts on a quiet performance in this. Not a lot of emotion and more going through the motions. There's lots of sports politics.

If you're expecting Moneyball, look elsewhere. This movie is much more drama filled and condensed to a 12 hour time frame.

3 Days To Kill - 特務殺很大

3 Days To Kill (特務殺很大) is an 2014 film. The film stars Kevin Costner, Amber Heard, Hailee Steinfeld, and Connie Nielsen. The movie primarily takes place in France.

Kevin Costner is a life long CIA operative, Ethan Renner. So much so that he's alienated his wife and daughter whom live in France. After a assignment that leaves him unconscious, Ethan is diagnosed with a terminal brain cancer which has spread to his lungs. Ethan is told that he's got only a few months to live and "retired" from the CIA. Back in the real world, Ethan goes back to France to try to make things "right" with his wife and daughter. But his past catches up to him and he has to fight to keep his family alive.

This movie was pretty fun to watch. I originally thought the title meant that he could kill anyone in 3 days. But it was in reference to the three days his wife goes on a business trip and leaves him with the daughter.

Seems like a Liam career move here, going for the hard hitting action as a father figure. I like it, but the public didn't. Costner is trying hard to stay relevant. I thought this movie had endearing parts worth watching.

Man of Steel - 超人:鋼鐵英雄

Man of Steel (超人:鋼鐵英雄) is an 2013 film. The movie stars Henry Cavill and Amy Adams. Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, and Russell Crowe round out the supporting cast. The movie is produced in part by Christopher Nolan. The movie reboots the Superman franchise.

Krypton, on the way to imploding, send its last son into space. On Earth, we start with Clark Kent making his way up to the north pole and working his way. When he finally makes it there, the government is there with a discovery or aircraft deep below the ice. A reporting by the name of Lois Lane is also there. A no nonsense report that gets the story and the truth. Lane bumps into Clark and sees some of his powers as he's in search of his origin. Back in Metropolis, Lane writes a story of a Superman that is dismissed, but leaked out to the world. Kent returns home to explore his origins. However, some prisoners from Krypton find their way to earth and battle Kent for the earth.

How do you redo a story that almost every fan of sci-fi would know. A alien being with super powers rescues the earth. The Superman story is part of the fabric of American culture. Just like The Monkey King is in Zhong Guo. In this telling, the film makers went with realism and gut wrenching character development.

If your new to the supermen mythologies, you'll like this. It does break down Krypton, the sun giving Kent super powers, and Lois Lane. This time around, Lois Lane is no nonsense and very much a part of the fabric of the story. Not an after thought.

As much as the movie was well made. I didn't like it that much. I don't even think I'd stop to watch this a 2nd time if I was flipping through channels. Worth at least one watch.
